I am currently spending my NC placement at the Enterprise nursery in Greenock. I started the placement in September 2012 and will end it in June 2013, were through this time I will attend every Thursday and Friday of each week.In my placement there is roughly 30 children divided in to two rooms were between 4 and 6 key workers are in each room. The age range I am working with is 0-3 year olds, who are at this point still learning to eat by themselves, walk, talk and for many still to even sit up and crawl.
At my placement I support the children by showing up on time and attending every week. Whilst at placement I prepare activities to do with the children which I think will benefit them in their curriculum of excellence. As they are all under three I mainly focus my attention on doing things that will develop their fine and gross motor skills i.e group games, art, lego, bricks and ball games ( throwing, rolling kicking and catching). I enjoy doing these activities as it brings enjoyment to the children which is the reason I attend placement and have chosen the career path that I have.It is also my responsibility to help tidy and prepare snacks with the other staff members, in doing this you have to be aware in making sure everything is clean and attracting and also if any child has allergies or things they can not eat.
At my placement it would be very difficult to say a child is a bully, as they are all very young and aren't aware of what they are doing or how what they do effects others .The main purpose to put procedures in to pace would be encouraging the children to be nice to one another and if a child does something wrong it will be corrected and explained why it was wrong. At my placement I am not aware of anyone with a disability although if this occurred or my placement suspected a problem with any of the children the forward their concern with the chills parents and the nursery manager{ Susan}.
Through my time at placement I just hope to enjoy it and get a better insight on how nursery runs on a day to day basis. I also want to gain more confidence to improve my communication skills with children and adults. At the moment placement is going well and for the rest of my time there I hope it remains the same.
